The son of the last Shah, Reza Pahlavi, has said he is preparing to return to the country.

Multimillion-dollar protests are continuing in Iran and have begun to take place at night, independent channel Iran International reported Jan. 9.

In protesting and going dark, Iranians responded to a call by the son of the last Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States and is referred to as the "crown prince." He called on protesters to continue street demonstrations for two more nights and take over city centers, and urged energy and transport workers to launch nationwide strikes.

He also said he was preparing to return to Iran, pledging to support the Iranian people in what he called the victory of a "national revolution," adding that he believes the moment is fast approaching.

In Tehran, protesters have hung a historic flag with a sun and a lion. They are chanting "Khamenei is a murderer, his rule is illegal" (referring to the Ayatollah, Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei) and the monarchist slogan "Long Live the Shah".

Social media users reported that X replaced the Iranian flag emoji with the historic lion and sun symbol. The previous emoji reflected the Islamic Republic's flag, which features a red emblem introduced after the 1979 revolution.

In Iran, authorities are blocking internet and cell phone service and using force against protesters. According to the latest data from human rights activists, at least 51 people have already been killed in the protests.
