The Telegraph: Trump Sees Putin As The World's Biggest Problem

"Gingerbread" for Moscow is over.

US President Donald Trump is increasingly frustrated with Vladimir Putin and sees him as a bigger obstacle to peace in Ukraine than Vladimir Zelensky.

This is according to The Telegraph, citing White House interlocutors.

In particular, they claim that Trump has run out of "carrots" for Moscow. The US special operation to seize a Russian tanker and support for a new package of sanctions are direct signals to Putin.

A source close to the US president's inner circle said, "He is working on the principle of carrot and stick. And I think he has run out of carrots."

Another interlocutor said Trump finds the Russians' "two steps forward, one step back" strategy in negotiations increasingly "tiresome."

Trump has previously spoken warmly of Putin and repeatedly said Ukraine was to blame for the war.

But according to several current and former officials in Washington, the Trump administration's position is increasingly converging with the European view of the conflict, that Putin is playing a never-ending game.

The escalation on the eve of the meeting with Zelensky

The day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago late last year, Russia launched ballistic missiles and drones at Kiev.

A British official said that because of this, the Trump administration is closer to a European view of the conflict than ever before: "Putin's constant brutality, insidious behavior and gamesmanship have not gone unnoticed by the administration."
