It called for the immediate restoration of full Internet access in the country.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU fully supports anti-government protests in Iran that have been violently dispersed by security forces.
As noted by the EC president in X, protesters in Tehran and other Iranian cities are demanding "freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of movement and, above all, freedom to live."
"Europe fully supports them. We strongly condemn the brutal suppression of these legitimate demonstrations. The perpetrators will be remembered as people on the wrong side of history," von der Leyen emphasized.
She called for the immediate release of all arrested demonstrators, the restoration of full Internet access, and respect for basic human rights.
In Iran, mass protests have been ongoing since December 28. First, due to the collapse of the national currency and huge inflation, traders in the Grand Bazaar in Tehran went on strike. Then the protests covered almost the whole country. After 10 days, two cities in the west of Iran came under the control of protesters.
According to the latest data, more than 50 people were killed during the protests.
It is reported that the ruler of Iran Ali Khamenei considers the situation threatening and even developed a plan to escape to Russia.
