Former Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner Disappeared In Cyprus
Vladislav Baumgertner

He was detained in a scandalous case in Minsk when he flew to see Myasnikovich.

Vladislav Baumgertner has gone missing in Cyprus. The 53-year-old man has been absent from his place of residence in Limassol since January 7, according to Cypriot police.

Baumgertner was formerly CEO of Uralkali.

When he flew to Belarus in 2013 at the invitation of then Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich, he was arrested. He was held in the KGB detention center.

His arrest was preceded by the Belarusian-Russian potash conflict, which began after Uralkali announced the cessation of sales through the Belarusian Potash Company, a joint venture with Belarus. Both Uralkali and Belaruskali were selling through this trader. Both sides accused each other of uncoordinated sales bypassing the BPC.

Baumgertner was initially accused of abuse of power and authority, then the charge was supplemented with theft. After the businessman was deported to Russia, where a criminal case was also opened against him. Later, the case was closed "due to the absence of corpus delicti in his actions."

In 2015-2017, Baumgertner worked as CEO of the port company Global Ports. Afterward, he headed the Swiss company Alevo.
