During Sunday prayers, the pontiff recalled the shelling of the Ukrainian energy sector.
Pope Leo XIV after the Sunday prayer "Angelus of the Lord" January 11 expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people suffering from massive Russian shelling, particularly of energy infrastructure. This was reported by Vatican News.
The Pontiff emphasized that the attacks precisely in conditions of severe cold weather are a serious blow to the civilian population.
"I pray for those who are suffering and renew the call to stop violence and multiply efforts to achieve peace," the Pope said.
The Pope also referred to the tense situation in the Middle East, particularly in Iran and Syria, where he said ongoing conflicts are causing many casualties. The pontiff called on the parties to dialog and action for the common good.
