Iran Has Sold Nearly Three Billion Dollars Worth Of Missiles To Russia

Bloomberg revealed the data from Western intelligence agencies.

Western intelligence estimates that Russia has spent the equivalent of more than $4 billion on Iranian military equipment since the end of 2021. Contracts with Moscow since October 2021 - even before the full-scale war in Ukraine began - for ballistic and anti-aircraft missiles total about $2.7 billion, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, writes Bloomberg.

Moscow and Tehran drew closer after the Russian Armed Forces invaded Ukraine in 2022. The full-scale war led to sweeping sanctions against Russia and the Kremlin's most serious confrontation with the West since the Cold War, and Iran's arms shipments to Russia have further strengthened the partnership between the two countries.

An estimate suggests Iran has supplied millions of rounds of ammunition and shells, but it does not reflect the full extent of Moscow's purchases from Tehran.

Tehran also supplied Shahed-136 kamikaze drones and shared the technology that allowed Russia to produce them domestically under the name Geran-2 as part of a $1.75 billion contract signed in early 2023.

According to estimates, in total, Russia has spent more than $4 billion on Iranian military equipment since the end of 2021.

Iran, whose government has suppressed ongoing violent protests, has sought to deepen its ties with Russia since the 2010s, irritated by the West's ability to isolate it over its nuclear program.

Although Iran signed a strategic partnership agreement with Russia in January 2025, it contains no mutual defense pact, and Moscow offered no tangible assistance to Tehran during Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran last year. Russia is building a trade route with Tehran connecting it to India to try to ease the impact of sanctions, and officials have discussed expanding financial and banking cooperation.
