Vilnius is determined to solve the problem.
Lithuania's National Security Commission on Wednesday will discuss the situation with weather balloons from Belarus, as well as the security of maritime infrastructure.
An adviser to Lithuanian Prime Minister Ignas Algirdas Dobrovolskas said this, LRT reports.
According to him, the issue of smuggling balloons will be discussed until the situation is resolved.
"At the meeting of the National Security Commission, the situation with Belarus will again, of course, be discussed - what concerns smuggling balloons: where we have progressed, what else is probably needed, what has already been implemented," Dobrovolskas said.
He also added that the meeting will discuss the problem of trucks that are still on the territory of Belarus.
In addition, it is planned to discuss recent incidents in which undersea communication cables were damaged in the Baltic Sea, as well as issues of transportation infrastructure security.
According to the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, only 635 cargoes of cigarettes transported from Belarus to Lithuania by balloons were intercepted last year. In 2024, the figure was 226, in 2023 there were several incidents and in 2022 no such cargo was recorded.
The balloon launches last year disrupted more than 300 flights, mostly at Vilnius airport, affected 47,000 passengers and led to the closure of airports in total for almost 60 hours.
