The emotions of an experienced and restrained politician spilled out after the White House meeting.
Greenland's Foreign Minister Viviane Motsfeldt cried during an interview after a meeting with US administration officials at the White House. This is reported by the Greenlandic radio station (KNR https://knr.gl/da/knr-radio).
"Motzfeldt went live on KNR radio - and here the emotions of this experienced and reserved politician spilled out," the report says.
The diplomat was asked if she was able to keep her composure during the meeting with the US representatives, and her voice almost trembled. Motzfeldt also told reporters that her office had worked hard to prepare for the talks and to create an opportunity for Greenlanders to "live in safety." She said pressure from Washington has only increased since the meeting.
On Jan. 14, the Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance at the White House. The meeting "failed to dispel threats from the United States." However, the diplomats agreed to create a working group to discuss ways to strengthen security in the Arctic.
