Trump Imposes Duties Against Countries Resisting Greenland Annexation

The duties will be introduced in stages.

The United States imposes additional import duties on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland. The reason was the statements of these countries against the idea of annexation of Greenland by the United States. This was stated by US President Donald Trump on the social network Truth Social.

He said that Washington for many years "actually subsidized" Denmark, the EU states and a number of other countries without demanding duties or other forms of compensation in return. "Now, centuries later, it is time for Denmark to repay," Trump wrote.

The American president reiterated the thesis that China and Russia are allegedly seeking control over Greenland and Copenhagen is unable to resist.

"Their current 'defense' is just two dogsleds, and one of them was added only recently," Trump said.

According to the arguments outlined, the U.S. president announced additional duties of 10% on all imports from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland. The new measures will begin to take effect on February 1, and the rate will be increased to 25% on June 1.
