Italy Arrested A Ship With Metal Arriving From A Russian Port

The detention is due to violation of European Union sanctions.

Italian authorities have detained a vessel flying the flag of one of the island states of Oceania, which arrived in the country from the territorial waters of Russia in the Black Sea.

It was reported by ANSA.

It is reported that the vessel was carrying more than 33 thousand tons of metal products. The arrest was the result of an investigation coordinated by the Brindisi prosecutor's office with the participation of the financial police and the Customs Agency.

The publication writes that the detention is related to a possible violation of the European Union sanctions imposed against Russia after the outbreak of a full-scale war against Ukraine.

The case involves four people - the importer of the cargo, the shipowner and two crew members.

Checks after the vessel entered the port revealed numerous inconsistencies and signs of falsification of documentation, in particular regarding routes, berths and cargo operations.

Analysis of navigation data also showed that the vessel was in the port of Novorossiysk from November 13 to 16, 2025, where it carried out prohibited loading.

In addition, the investigation found that the vessel's AIS (GPS receiver and transponder) had been disabled near the Russian port, probably to conceal the place of stay and complicate control by the competent authorities.
