Prince Reza Pahlavi's address is being broadcast.
In Iran, all state television channels in the Islamic Republic have been hacked.
Opposition Iranian channels reportedly broadcast an address by Prince Reza Pahlavi to the military urging it to join the nation, as well as graffiti reading "Long Live the Shah."
Mass protests in Iran began on Dec. 28 amid economic hardship and escalated in two weeks into nationwide demonstrations demanding an end to the rule of the ayatollahs' regime. It is the bloodiest unrest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Khamenei blamed the United States for organizing the protests, as well as Israel, the republic's arch-enemy, which carried out airstrikes against it in June.
