His post will be taken by the country's Vice President Iliana Jotova.
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev announced his resignation during an address to the Bulgarian people.
Radev said the country's Vice President Iliana Yotova will be a "worthy head of state".
"Circumstances have forced me to appoint interim governments seven times, to protect the state and public interests within the limits of my authority. Today I address you for the last time as president of Bulgaria," Radev said.
In December, Bulgaria's cabinet resigned amid mass protests over a controversial draft budget. At the time, there were also mass anti-government protests over the cabinet's "controversial budget plans," which then turned into discontent with the government over "corruption, injustice and failures in many public sectors."
