The U.S. Successfully Tested An AGM-179 Missile

It is capable of shooting down airborne and surface drones.

US defense company Lockheed Martin has conducted a successful demonstration test of an air-to-ground missile (JAGM), launching it at a 90-degree angle, reports New Voice.

The test took place at China Lake Proving Ground in California using the innovative Quad Launcher (JQL) launcher. The main purpose of the tests was to confirm the system's ability to neutralize advanced threats posing a danger to friendly drones, as well as to demonstrate the flexibility of missile weapon deployment in multi-domain warfare.

An important feature of the demonstration was the versatility of the platform: the JQL launcher was mounted on a 6×6 all-terrain vehicle. This proves that multi-missile systems can be rapidly deployed in various combat scenarios, ensuring integration into a unified control network. A successful vertical launch paves the way for the JAGM missile, also known as AGM-179, to be used not only on aircraft carriers but also on surface ships and ground platforms. This will provide reliable all-round defense of naval vessels and strategic targets against a wide range of attacks.

The missile's high performance is due to its advanced guidance system. It combines a semi-active laser sensor for high-precision engagement and a millimeter-wave radar that operates on a "shoot and forget" principle. This combination allows the operator to select the optimal mode depending on weather conditions and target type.

The system is designed to utilize data from all sensors simultaneously, ensuring the destruction of an object even in the event of interference on one of the communication channels.

Lockheed Martin officials say the JAGM's ability to effectively counter enemy drones in difficult conditions, including lack of GPS signal, is critical to modern naval and ground forces.
