Lithuanian Border Guards Found A Shipment Of Cigarettes Worth 260 Thousand Euros At The Border With Belarus

The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reported about a large smuggling - in the forest near the Belarusian border border border border guards found 50 thousand packs of cigarettes of the Grodno factory with a total value of about 260 thousand euros, reports "Zerkalo".
In the evening of December 31, border guards of the Kapčiamestis outpost of the Varenna border district noticed a lot of packages with hooks attached in the middle in a forest area near the village of Kuodaichiai.
The boxes wrapped in plastic film were scattered in a radius of about 20 meters. The border guards organized an ambush and sat for several hours, but no one came for the cargo. After that the servicemen thoroughly inspected the area and took the find to the outpost.

In each package there were two factory cardboard boxes with the logo of Hrodna tobacco factory "Neman". A total of 50 thousand packs of Minsk 5 Superslims and Queen Menthol cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were seized.
The cost of the illegal cigarettes, including all mandatory taxes in Lithuania, was estimated at 259,500 euros.
A pre-trial investigation into the illegal trafficking of excisable goods was launched. The organizers of the smuggling, if found, face a fine or imprisonment for up to eight years.
