He joins from the SVR as head of the GUR.

The new head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry is Oleh Ivashchenko, replacing Kyrylo Budanov. Until then, Ivashchenko was the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service.

The corresponding decree was signed by the Ukrainian president.

There is very little information about Ivashchenko in open sources. The media note that much of the information about this official remains classified.

It is known from the publications of the GUR, the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the AFU that during 2017-2019 Ivashchenko held the position of first deputy chief of the GUR, deputy chief of the AFU General Staff for intelligence.

Since 2021, he simultaneously served as the Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the AFU.

Ivashchenko has the military rank of Lieutenant General.

In March 2022, he was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree for his participation in combat operations. He also has the Order of Daniel of Halytsky.

On March 26, 2024, Zelensky appointed Ivashchenko as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine by his decree. The head of the SVR is also a member of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Stavka and a member of the National Security and Defense Council.
