He was with the president of the United States in Alaska.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Steven Whitkoff were joined in talks in the Kremlin on the night of January 23 by Evgeny Sokol, the translator who accompanied President Donald Trump to a summit in Alaska in the summer of 2025.

This was brought to the attention of "Agency. Novosti".
According to its analysis, in addition, official footage from the Kremlin talks showed a Russian Foreign Ministry employee, Natalya Koshkina, who had previously translated for Whitkoff - under the guise of a U.S. Embassy employee in Moscow (this later provoked a scandal).
"In the footage released by the Kremlin overnight, Trump's translator stands behind the backs of members of the U.S. delegation as they say hello to Putin. After shaking hands with the president, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner approaches the translator while the rest of the negotiators walk to the table," the media outlet wrote.
"At the same time, Sokol was repeatedly caught on footage of events with Trump, according to the publication's analysis. For example, in November 2025, he was at the meeting of the American president with the head of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
"In August 2025, he (Sokol - ed.) participated in a telephone conversation between Trump and Putin. The same person translated Trump during his meeting with Putin in Anchorage," the publication writes.
The journalists write that Sokol has US citizenship, and there is no information about a Russian passport in the leaked databases.
"The only Russian address included in the leaks is an apartment hotel in Moscow. His e-mail is registered on the NASA domain: he has repeatedly appeared in photos from joint events of the American space agency and Roscosmos," the publication writes
