The information was confirmed by U.S. officials.
U.S. officials said U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered strikes on targets deep inside Venezuela, including military installations.
It was reported by CBS News reporter Jennifer Jacobs.
"President Trump ordered strikes on targets in Venezuela, including military installations, U.S. officials said, as the administration stepped up its campaign against the regime of President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday morning," her report in X said.
U.S. administration officials said they were aware of the explosions in Caracas but did not elaborate on the U.S. role.
At about 2 a.m. local time Saturday, at least seven explosions were heard in Venezuela's capital Caracas and a low-altitude plane flew over. Residents from different neighborhoods ran into the streets. Some of them could be seen from far away from different neighborhoods in Caracas.
The reports of the explosions came after the U.S. military conducted operations for months against ships believed to be smuggling drugs in the region and the Trump administration pressured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Thousands of U.S. troops and several warships have been sent to the region, and President Trump has been hinting for weeks at a possible larger military operation.
