Maria Corina Machado: We Are Ready To Take Responsibility For The Country

Venezuela's opposition has announced the start of a political transition.

The Venezuelan opposition, led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado, has issued its first official statement since the US operation against the regime of Nicolas Maduro, writes BILD.

The statement says that Nicolas Maduro "from this day forward will face international justice for atrocious crimes against Venezuelans and citizens of other countries."

The opposition emphasizes that by refusing a negotiated way out of the crisis, Maduro himself pushed the situation towards a violent scenario.

"In the face of his refusal to accept a negotiated exit path, the United States government has fulfilled its promise to uphold the rule of law," the text reads.

Machado and her supporters say they are ready to take charge of the country immediately.

"The hour has come for popular sovereignty and national sovereignty to operate again in our country. We will restore order, free political prisoners, build an outstanding country and bring our children home," the appeal said.

A separate appeal is addressed to Venezuelans abroad.

"To Venezuelans abroad: we need you mobilized - to activate the governments and citizens of the world and to involve them immediately in the massive operation to build a new Venezuela," Machado added.
