Trump: U.S. Will Be In Venezuela Until Transfer Of Power

There will be no return of the Maduro regime under a new name.

U.S. President Donald Trump said during a press conference on Venezuela that the United States will assist the new government in the country and ensure a safe and fair transition of power.

"We will stay in Venezuela as long as it takes for a proper transition of power," Trump said, adding that they will not allow the Maduro regime to continue under another leader.

Also, U.S. President Donald Trump said at the press conference that Nicolas Maduro tried to escape to safety during the operation but did not make it.

"There was a lot of shooting. He wanted to escape, he tried to get to the bunker, but he couldn't make it to the door. It took us 47 seconds to blow the door to him," Trump said.

Also during a press conference on Venezuela, Pentagon General Dan Kane revealed details of the operation to capture Maduro.

The U.S. has deployed 150 aircraft in the operation against Venezuela, the Pentagon said. President Trump ordered the operation at 10:46 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Jan. 2, and troops arrived in Caracas around 2 a.m.

The military operated confidently in the palace and captured Maduro. One helicopter was hit, and U.S. aircraft destroyed Venezuela's air defense systems so the special forces could execute the capture.

Few U.S. Air Force helicopters were damaged but all returned to a U.S. base, Pentagon Gen. Dan Kane said.
