To express joy.

The change of power in Venezuela has sparked a massive reaction among Venezuelan migrants around the world. People who left the country took to the streets of major cities to express their joy.

According to Reuters.

Diaspora reactions in different countries

After reports of Nicolas Maduro's US-backed ouster, Venezuelans began spontaneous actions in Latin American and European capitals.

In Santiago, Lima, Quito and Madrid, people gathered with national flags, chanting slogans and sharing emotions.

"We are free. We are all happy that the dictatorship has fallen and that we have a free country," said Hati Yañez, a Venezuelan living in Chile.

"My joy is too great. After so many years, after so many difficulties, today is the day. Today is the day of freedom," said Jose Gregorio.

The scale of the migration crisis

According to the UN International Organization for Migration, about 7.7 million people have left Venezuela since 2014, about 20 percent of the country's population.

Colombia has received the most migrants, about 2.8 million, followed by Peru with 1.7 million and other countries in the region. For many, the reason for leaving is the inability to provide basic needs and lack of prospects.

Hope and Doubt

Despite the euphoria, anxiety remains among Venezuelans abroad.

"We have not yet reached the point where we can say that Venezuela is completely free," Maria Fernanda Monsilva said at a rally in Quito.

Many emphasize that what is happening is only the first step, after which the country must undergo a difficult period of political and economic transition.
