Venezuela's bet on Russian air defense systems, transferred to Caracas through the mediation of Belarusian dictator Lukashenko, did not work. During the U.S. army strikes on the La Carlota airbase in Caracas, a Russian-made Buk-M2E SAM system in service with the Venezuelan Armed Forces was destroyed.
The corresponding frames were shown on Venezuelan state television.
According to the published video, we are talking about the Buk-M2E SAM system, an export version of the system produced by the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant. The launcher is mounted on a wheeled chassis produced by the Minsk Wheeled Tractor Plant.
The Buk-M2E modification is designed to engage aerodynamic targets at medium ranges and was supplied to foreign customers as part of Russia's military-technical cooperation.
The first deliveries of these systems to Venezuela were recorded back in August 2015. At that time, Russian media wrote that Caracas received the first batch of Buk-M2E SAM systems on wheeled chassis. According to sources, it was planned to transfer several divisions of such systems to Venezuela.
What is included in the Buk division
One division of Buk-M2E SAM systems includes:
5-6 self-propelled firing units,
command post,
target detection station,
up to 12 launchers and loaders,
up to 72 anti-aircraft guided missiles.
The complexes are designed to cover strategic facilities, airfields and military infrastructure.
