The Finnish Border Guard has released footage of the operation to seize the cargo ship Fitburg, which is suspected of damaging the submarine telecommunications cable of operator Elisa.

The agency announced the news on its Facebook page.

According to Finnish border guards, measures to stop the vessel were taken on New Year's Eve. After boarding, the Fitburg was taken under control and escorted to a safe harbor.

"The Finnish Border Guard continues to support the police underwater investigation by providing specialized knowledge and equipment. We are responsible for monitoring the maritime zone and protecting critical underwater infrastructure in cooperation with other authorities," the agency said in a statement.

The operation involved special forces units, two Finnish Border Guard helicopters and an NH-90 helicopter of the Finnish Armed Forces.
