The First Hearing In The Maduro Case Was Held In New York City
Nicolás Maduro

The dictator and his wife have been indicted on four counts.

Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro was taken to a courtroom in New York without handcuffs, the session has begun. This was reported live by Fox News.

According to her, Maduro was brought to the court shortly after noon local time (about 20:00 Minsk time). Next to the dictator is his American lawyer Barry Pollack, the TV channel specifies.

On the night of January 2 to 3, the United States conducted Operation Absolute Resolve on the territory of Venezuela. During it, the parliament, airports and military bases were attacked, and Nicolas Maduro and his wife were captured and taken to the United States. U.S. authorities accuse them of narco-terrorism and weapons smuggling.

They have been charged with a total of four counts:

conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism,

conspiracy to import cocaine,

possession of machine-guns and explosive devices,

conspiracy to purchase machine-guns and explosive devices.

At the beginning of the trial, Maduro pleaded not guilty to the drug terrorism charges and that he remains "president" of Venezuela.

"I am innocent. I am an honest man. I am still president of my country," Maduro said.

Maduro's wife Celia Flores also denied the charges against her.

This ended the first session. The judge ordered Maduro to appear for a hearing on March 17.
