The reason for the reduction was the duties imposed against New Delhi in late summer 2025.
India has significantly reduced purchases of Russian oil. This was announced by US President Donald Trump on Fox News channel during a speech to members of the Republican Party in Washington.
The operator of the world's largest refinery Reliance said earlier that the Jamnagar refinery has not received oil from Russia in recent weeks and does not expect new supplies in January 2026. The company claims the refinery is the world's largest. Reuters estimates that if there are indeed no deliveries, India's Russian oil imports in January will fall below 1 million barrels.
