The United States has seized another oil tanker that was conducting illegal activities in the Caribbean Sea.
The M/T Sophia was detained as part of the blockade of Venezuela that was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump in mid-December. The video was published by Clash Report.
The US military's Southern Command confirmed the detention of the tanker M/T Sophia. It said the vessel was operating in international waters and conducting illegal activities in the Caribbean Sea. The U.S. Coast Guard is escorting the M/T Sophia to the United States for final disposition.
The tanker was traveling without a flag. It was under United States sanctions.
The statement also noted the unwavering desire to fulfill its mission to stop illegal activities in the Western Hemisphere.
But U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem said the Coast Guard conducted thorough and coordinated operations on Jan. 7 to detain two tankers from the "shadow fleet" - one was apprehended in the North Atlantic Ocean and the other in international waters off the Caribbean.
She noted that both vessels were detected either near or en route to Venezuela.
