New Details About The Fate Of The Crew Of The Russian Tanker "Mariner" Have Become Known

U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi revealed the details.

The US Department of Justice is preparing to bring criminal charges against the crew members of the Bella 1 oil tanker detained in the Atlantic Ocean for violating US sanctions. The vessel sails under the Russian flag.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi on social media X.

She informed that the United States executed an arrest warrant for the Bella 1 tanker, which was transporting oil from Venezuela and Iran, which falls under the sanctions.

"Bella 1 was previously found guilty of violating Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions for its role in a network supporting foreign terrorist organizations," Bondi wrote.

She said that during the operation, the vessel's crew tried to avoid detention and hide from the U.S. Coast Guard. Despite this, the tanker was eventually stopped.

"Because of the failure to comply with Coast Guard orders, the crew of this vessel is under investigation and criminal charges will be filed against all responsible parties," the attorney general said.

Bondi also said the U.S. Justice Department is monitoring the movement of several other tankers that could face similar action.

"Each of those who refuse to comply with the instructions of the Coast Guard or other federal officials will be held accountable in full accordance with the law," she stressed.

We recall that on January 7, the Russian vessel Bella 1 (now called Marinera) was detained by the U.S. military. The reason was a violation of US sanctions.
