The bill would penalize countries that buy cheap Russian oil.
The President of the United States of America Donald Trump has given the "green light" to a bipartisan bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia. This statement was made by one of the co-authors of the document, Senator Lindsey Graham.
"After today's very productive meeting with President Trump, where we discussed a number of issues, he has given the green light to a bipartisan sanctions bill against Russia that I have been working on for several months with Senator Blumenthal and many others. This is a very timely decision, as Ukraine is making concessions for peace and Putin is only talking while continuing to kill innocent people," he emphasized in his social media post X.
The Republican senator added that the bill would give Trump the opportunity to punish countries that continue to buy "cheap Russian oil that feeds Putin's war machine."
It would also serve as leverage for countries like China, India and Brazil to encourage them to stop buying Russian oil.
"I look forward to a strong bipartisan vote, hopefully as early as next week," Graham added.
