Mass protests continue in the country.
Iran, where mass protests and disobedience have been ongoing since late last year, has experienced a nationwide internet blackout, according to NetBlocks, a web monitoring service.
"Operational data shows that Iran is now experiencing a nationwide internet outage; this incident was preceded by a series of intensifying digital censorship measures targeting protests across the country," the service said.
Earlier in the day, the service reported a loss of connectivity at Iran's backbone internet provider TCI in the riot-hit city of Kermanshah. The service also reported internet outages in regions of Iran.
Later, NetBlocks reported that Tehran and other parts of Iran were entering a digital blackout as several ISPs experienced a drop in connectivity.
These events could severely limit the ability to cover events "from the ground" as the protests spread, the service said.
