US Detains Russian Tanker In The Caribbean Sea

The US has detained the tanker Olina in the Caribbean Sea near the island of Trinidad. This is the fifth such interception of ships in recent weeks as part of Washington's efforts to control Venezuelan oil exports. A U.S. official said this on Friday, January 9, according to Reuters.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the tanker is involved in exporting oil and oil products to circumvent G7 sanctions from Russian ports in the Baltic and Black Seas, as well as the Pacific region, mainly to China, India and Turkey.

The Olina is under sanctions by the United States, Britain, Canada, the EU, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.
