Ukraine Backs US Action Against Russian Tankers

This is a telling move against circumventing sanctions.

Ukraine welcomes "consistent and decisive actions of the United States against illegal tankers," including today's seizure of the Olina tanker in the Caribbean Sea. This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.

"This vessel came under sanctions as part of Russia's 'shadow fleet'. Such decisive steps demonstrate strength and send the right signals to violators," Sibiga said.

It will be recalled that on January 9, the US seized another Russian oil tanker Olina in the Caribbean Sea.

This is the fifth time in recent weeks that US authorities have intercepted vessels as part of efforts to control Venezuelan oil exports, a source said.
