Politico named a possible topic of talks with Xi.
U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to Beijing for a summit with Chinese leader Si Jinping in a couple of months, in the first week of April.
This is reported by Politico.
The publication was told the relevant information by three sources familiar with the president's plans. In turn, a White House spokesman said that the dates of the trip have not yet been determined.
By the way, after the summit in South Korea, which was held in October 2025, Trump announced that in April he intends to visit China.
It is also worth noting that last week the two leaders had a telephone conversation. Politico speculates that the conversation was a preparation for a new trip. The conversation ranged from trade issues to foreign conflicts.
According to official sources, Trump said that during his conversation with Xi, they discussed Taiwan, a topic the leaders did not touch on during their October 2025 meeting in South Korea.
So this could suggest that the Taiwan issue could be raised during talks this spring and could be an important point of tension ahead of the summit.
"Xi Jinping emphasized that the Taiwan issue is the most important issue in Sino-U.S. relations. Taiwan is China's territory. China must protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity and will never allow Taiwan to secede. The US should be cautious about selling guns to Taiwan," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
What else is known
Politico notes that the upcoming summit could be the first of four meetings between the two leaders in 2026. According to U.S. Treasury Department chief Scott Bessent, Xi could arrive to join Trump in either Washington or Mar-a-Lago in the summer. The leaders could also meet at the G20 summit in Miami, and at the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) in Shenzhen, China.
