The Kremlin's demands were voiced by Lavrov's deputy.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that any peace agreement on Ukraine should take into account "security guarantees for Russia" and not be limited only to the interests of the Ukrainian side.
The Russian diplomat said that without this condition, a peaceful settlement is "impossible," writes Reuters.
"We recognize that a peaceful settlement in Ukraine must take into account Ukraine's security interests, but the key factor is certainly Russia's security interests," Grushko told the Russian propaganda publication Izvestia.
"If you look closely at the statements of European Union leaders, no one is talking about security guarantees for Russia. This is a key element of a peace agreement. Without it, no agreement is possible," he added.
Grushko also listed the elements of what such guarantees might contain. They included longstanding demands made by Moscow, including a ban on Ukraine's membership in NATO, a rejection of any deployment of Alliance troops to Ukraine as part of a conflict settlement and an end to what he called the use of Ukrainian territory to create "threats" to Russia.
