Its planning began after the talks between Rutte and Trump in Davos.
NATO has launched the Arctic Sentry military mission to strengthen its presence in the Arctic as part of promises to U.S. President Donald Trump, who has insisted that the region, and Greenland in particular, is unprotected.
According to "European Pravda", NATO's press service said.
The Arctic Sentry mission will coordinate the growing military presence of NATO's European allies in the region and will consist of military exercises such as Denmark's Operation Arctic Endurance in Greenland.
"The mission underscores the Alliance's commitment to defend its members and maintain stability in one of the most strategically critical and environmentally challenging regions of the world," said NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Hrynkiewicz.
NATO began planning the draft mission after U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held talks in Davos in January at the height of the crisis over Greenland, sparked by the U.S. leader's insistence on control of the island.
Rutte and Trump agreed that NATO would play a greater role in Arctic defense while Denmark, the United States and Greenland would hold further talks on Greenland.
