The administration of US President Donald Trump is even willing to go along with a proposal that would allow Iran to "symbolically" enrich uranium if it would prevent it from building a nuclear bomb. At the same time, however, Trump is considering options to strike supreme leader Ali Khamenei and his son.
The U.S. willingness to go for a "symbolic" deal indicates a possible gap between U.S. "red lines" and Iran to prevent war. However, the US is ready to resort to more radical actions, the Axios writes, citing sources.
Simultaneously, Trump was presented with military plans for further developments. They are the ones that involve removing Ali Khamenei and his main successor, his son.
"The bar for Iran's future nuclear proposal is very high, as the plan should convince many skeptics in the Trump administration and in the region," unnamed US officials said.
The Iranians will lose chances if they "keep playing games" and Trump goes for a deal that he can "sell politically" in his country. If the Iranians want to prevent an attack on them, they must offer the Trump administration a deal that the United States cannot refuse, officials say.
Trump may strike as soon as possible
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday, February 20, announced a final offer from the country within days. However, U.S. and Israeli officials told the publication, Trump could strike Iran as early as this weekend - February 21-22.
Some advisers, however, are trying to dampen the U.S. president's fervor by urging him to be patient. Whether this will work is unknown, as Trump could issue an order to that effect at any moment. The American leader continues to leave all proposals open.
The Pentagon is now offering Trump numerous options for the development of events. However, no one knows which plan the politician might choose.
"They have something for every scenario. One scenario destroys the ayatollah, his son and the mullahs," a source said, while another confirmed the data, saying that such an option was offered to the president a few weeks ago.
