Sarcasm or a warning?

US President Donald Trump jokingly said he wanted to fire Marco Rubio after his harsh speech at the Munich Security Conference, where he criticized allies and "mistakes of the past."

It was reported by The Hill.

So, during the Gaza Peace Council meeting, Trump publicly addressed Rubio, hinting that he had become "too popular" in Germany. The president ironically noted that the secretary of state looked extremely pleased with himself after the speech.

"Marco, please don't do anything better than you've been doing. Because if you do, you're out of here," Trump declared to the laughter of those in attendance, using his famous sarcasm.

Why Rubio "scared" the White House with his success

The reason for this reaction was the unheard-of reception Rubio received in Munich. Despite the fact that he harshly criticized Europeans for "mistakes of the past" and excessive enthusiasm for "green energy", the audience gave him a standing ovation.

Key points of the "dangerously successful" speech:

The failure of liberalism: Rubio called it an illusion to believe that after the fall of the Berlin Wall the whole world was to become democratic.

Prioritizing sovereignty: He urged allies to return to realpolitik and the defense of national interests rather than global dogma.

Contrast with Vance: Rubio's speech looked considerably more winning than last year's cold reception of Vice President J.D. Vance.

Experts are wondering whether this is just friendly trolling, or whether Trump is really reminding his inner circle that he alone can be the administration's top star. Given that Rubio managed to "sell" Trump's ideas to the Europeans in such a way that they were delighted, the secretary of state has become an overly weighty figure on the international stage.
