The political situation would be much better in such a case.
Advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump believe it would be preferable for Israel to strike Iran first before the United States could launch a military operation against the country.
This was made known to Politico by two knowledgeable interlocutors.
White House officials believe that "the political situation is budding," according to two people with knowledge of the discussions. And they are not protected by the Iron Dome." So the likelihood of American casualties is high. And this carries a big political risk," he said.
Despite Israel's desire to act first, the most likely scenario could be a joint US-Israeli operation, the interlocutors said.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anne Kelly commented on such statements.
"The media can continue to speculate on the president's thoughts all they want, but only President Trump knows what he can do and what he can't do," she said.
Reminder, last week the US imposed visa restrictions against Iranian officials in response to the violent crackdown on nationwide protests in the country.
The announcement of the new sanctions comes amid heightened military tensions between Washington and Tehran.
On February 20, Trump publicly said he would consider limited strikes on Iran.
The American president also said he preferred a diplomatic solution to the crisis with Iran, but at the same time laid out arguments in favor of a possible war - in particular, because Tehran will soon allegedly produce missiles capable of reaching the United States.
On Thursday, February 26, U.S. and Iranian delegations will meet in Geneva to discuss an agreement on Tehran's nuclear program.
