Media: Epstein Was "courting" Putin
Jeffrey Epstein

The Russian ruler is mentioned 1,055 times in the e-mail correspondence.

Emails from the newly disclosed Jeffrey Epstein Library reveal that the billionaire spent years trying to arrange a meeting with Vladimir Putin.

This is reported by The Independent.

Attempts to meet with the Russian leader

According to U.S. Justice Department files, Epstein made active attempts to arrange a meeting with Putin from 2010 to 2018. The emails mention the Russian president 1,055 times.

The emails include requests for friends and political contacts to arrange an audience to discuss foreign investments and economic projects.

Visa Request and Diplomatic Contacts

Epstein had been trying to obtain a Russian visa since 2010 and wondered whether he needed to contact his "Putin friends." In 2011, he wrote to Emirati businessman Ahmed bin Sulayem, "Putin may come to the States, so Sochi is unlikely."

The financier also discussed the possibility of meeting Putin through former Norwegian Prime Minister Turbjorn Jagland, who was then secretary-general of the Council of Europe.

Negotiations and economic initiatives

Epstein used his contacts to invite Putin to dinners with other influential figures, including Bill Gates, and offered to discuss digital currencies and investments.

He repeatedly emphasized the need for confidential time to speak with the Russian leader and clarified details through intermediaries.

Context and Clarification

Putin's inclusion in Epstein's emails does not imply his participation in or consent to the meetings. Former mediators, including Jagland and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, confirmed participation in the discussions but noted no inappropriate behavior or parties.

The documents demonstrate Epstein's insistence on using international contacts for economic and political purposes. The Russian president appears in the materials as a target of attention and potential meeting, but there is no direct evidence of interaction.
