The Russian human rights activist revealed shocking facts.
There is an unspoken rule in Russian prisons and colonies that captive Ukrainians can and should be abused.
The corresponding order, apparently, was given by Vladimir Putin personally. In an interview with DW, Russian human rights activist and head of the "Sitting Russia" foundation Olga Romanova told about it.
She said that after the full-scale war began, a separate unspoken regime was created for Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian hostages in Russian prisons.
"The heads of the FSIN (Federal Penitentiary Service) gathered all their own and said that Ukrainian prisoners of war - FSIN orders and internal regulations do not apply to them. This means that they do not have even the small rights that Russian prisoners have. That is, there is a strict instruction on Ukrainians separately," Romanova claims.
She stressed that abuse of Ukrainians in Russian prisons is not an isolated excess, but a systemic practice that includes torture, beatings, sexualized violence and even medical abuse.
"Remember the Ukrainian prisoner of war who was exchanged, he had "Glory to Russia!" carved on his stomach? And it was done by a medic. It was done in Donetsk by a surgeon sent from Moscow," Romanova said.
The human rights activist believes that such a system could not have developed spontaneously - the power vertical rules it out. Romanova is convinced that the abuse of Ukrainians is a political decision made at the top.
"Who can give such an order to the heads of the main departments of the Federal Penitentiary Service? The director of the FSIN. And only Putin is above the FSIN director. That's it. A short chain," Romanova said.
