The situation is developing rapidly.
Ukrainian journalist Vitaly Portnikov talked about the critical situation for Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, who has nothing to hope for in case of renewed popular protests:
- If one understands that the Belarusians themselves are not at all in favor of the political "choice" that Lukashenko made for them, usurping power, then indeed the pressure on both Moscow and Minsk may lead sooner or later to regime change, or at least to the fact that Putin will be unable or unwilling to assist Lukashenko in case of new protest movements in Belarus.
After all, Putin didn't help either Assad or Maduro. Why should Lukashenko necessarily be an exception to this list in case the Russian ruler simply does not have the resources to help maintain power in the neighboring country?
The situation is developing so rapidly that Russia, which was recently going to restore the Soviet Union, may lose influence even in Belarus as a result.
