Uganda has stated its desire to go to war with Iran.
Uganda has unexpectedly declared its desire to enter the war with Iran on the side of Israel. The country said that "one brigade" of the Ugandan army would be enough to capture Tehran. According to RBC-Ukraine, the commander-in-chief of Uganda's armed forces, Muhuzi Kainerugaba, son of the country's current president, wrote that.
"I heard that our friends in Israel are looking for a division to capture Tehran. Personally, I think a division is too much. The NDFU brigade will quickly accomplish the task," he wrote.
Kainerugaba explained that Israel strongly supported Uganda in the 1980s and 1990s. Therefore, Uganda, he said, should now come to its defense.
"Israel was with us when we were nothing in the 1980s and 1990s. Why don't we defend it now when our GDP is 100 billion dollars? One of the biggest in Africa," he added.
The Ugandan army chief also said the country supports the principle that the war in the Middle East must end. But not with an Iranian victory.
"We want the war in the Middle East to end now. The world is tired of it. But any talk of destroying or defeating Israel will drag us into the war. On the side of Israel!", he concluded.
Muhuzi Kainerugaba is the chief of the Uganda People's Defense Force and the eldest son of the country's current president Yevery Museveni. He has served in various positions in the Ugandan military since 1999, fighting in South Sudan.
Kainerugaba is known for his scandalous posts on social media. One incident almost cost him his career: in 2022, Kainerugaba publicly threatened to invade Kenya, which led to him being stripped of his position as an infantry unit commander.
Despite all the scandals, Muhuzi Kainerugaba was appointed commander-in-chief of the NSDF in 2024. In that position, he supported his father's nomination for a seventh presidential term. And in 2025 and 2026, he "went under the radar" for openly threatening members of the Ugandan opposition against Museveni's rule.
