Trump doesn't just want to protect the country from Iranian nuclear weapons.
The United States' main objective regarding Iran is to make sure Tehran can never possess nuclear weapons.
The United States Vice President J.D. Vance said this, according to Fox News.
"The President (of the United States Donald Trump - ed.) doesn't just want to protect the country from Iranian nuclear weapons during the first three or four years of his second term - he wants to make sure that Iran can never have nuclear weapons, and that requires a fundamental change in the thinking of the Iranian regime," Vance explained.
He also emphasized that Iran's nuclear facilities were created not only for peaceful uranium enrichment, as authorities in Tehran claim, but also for the purpose of developing nuclear weapons. At the same time, the vice president emphasized that there is no talk of a long-term military operation:
"Trump is not going to let the country get involved in a multi-year conflict.... we're not going to get involved in the problems we had with Iraq and Afghanistan," he added.
