France Sends Frigate And Air Defense Systems To Cyprus

After an Iranian drone attack on a British airbase on the island.

France will send missile systems, anti-drone systems and a frigate to Cyprus following a drone attack on a British airbase on the island.

The aid from France became known after a telephone conversation between Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulidis and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. In the conversation, Christodoulidis asked Macron for support after reports of a drone attack on Akrotiri airbase surfaced on Monday.

The French president promised to deploy missile systems, anti-drone capabilities and a frigate to Cyprus. Another warship is due to be delivered later.

Christodoulidis also asked German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to deploy a frigate off the island. The head of the German government agreed to send a ship to Cyprus.
