Bloomberg: Iran's Vital Partner Is Unhappy With The Closure Of The Strait Of Hormuz

Tehran was also urged to refrain from hitting export hubs.

China has called on all parties to the Iran war to ensure safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reports.

"China calls on all parties to immediately halt military operations, avoid escalation of tensions and ensure safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said.

Reporters recall that senior officials from the gas industry have previously said that Beijing has been pressuring Iranian officials behind the scenes to refrain from actions that could hinder the export of Qatari gas or other energy products transported through the strait.

Bloomberg notes that China is a vital partner for Iran because it buys the vast majority of oil from that country, but the world's second-largest economy depends on the Persian Gulf region for both oil and gas supplies that are transported through the Strait of Hormuz.

Besides China, Iranian officials are also being pressured by Qatar. According to Qatari state company executives who spoke to Bloomberg, the country's government officials are pressuring their Iranian counterparts to stop Tehran from attacking oil and LNG tankers passing through the strait and instead allow energy shipments.

In addition, Iranian officials have also been asked to refrain from hitting export hubs such as Qatar, which itself supplies 30 percent of LNG to China.
