WP: Trump, Rubio And Hegseth Cited Three Reasons For Continued U.S. Conflict With Iran

The politicians presented three different arguments.

U.S. President Donald Trump, State Department head Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth presented three different arguments for why the United States should continue to strike Iran, writes The Washington Post.

President Trump, though he has previously said he would like to bring about regime change in Iran through bombing and missile attacks, WP writes, but in his first public appearance since the attack began, explained that Iran would "soon" have missiles capable of hitting targets inside the United States.

Hegseth, WP notes, said Iran was developing sophisticated missiles and other weapons to hide its plans for a nuclear bomb. "Iran was holding us at gunpoint with conventional weapons in an attempt to trick us into building a nuclear bomb," the minister said.

Rubio, on the other hand, expressed a third version of events. According to the head of the US diplomatic corps, the US decided to launch a preemptive strike against Iran because it knew of its plans to attack Israel.
