Lukashenko Is In A Cleverly Set Trap

Will the dictator be able to get away with it?

Will the ruler of Belarus manage to wedge himself between Putin and Trump and get to the U.S. at the second attempt? Political observer Alexander Fridman in an interview with "Filin" commented on the piquant situation in which the dictator finds himself.

- If in the conversation with Cole it was mentioned that allegedly Lukashenko could go to Washington directly to a personal meeting with Trump, and there almost to Mar-a-Lago, then what Trump wrote in his latest tweet suggests another thing - he is waiting for him at the next meeting of the Peace Council, - says Alexander Fridman. - That's a different story.

Cole also said they were disappointed that Lukashenko did not come to the first meeting. And now we are not talking about a separate meeting, we are talking about the fact that Lukashenko should come to the Peace Council.

But, of course, it is not excluded that Trump may organize some kind of excursion for the participants.

- First I would like to clarify how Lukashenko will get there?

- He wanted to fly through Chukotka, so let him fly that way, from there to Alaska. Perhaps Trump will help to get him through the Europeans.

There is another detail: the other day Peskov suddenly said that the Peace Council is not relevant for Russia and there can be no membership there for Russia in connection with the aggression of Israel and the United States against Iran.

- How will Lukashenko get between two "friends" - Putin and Trump?

- This is another test for him. I think he will try a second time to ask for permission.

With regard to the war with Iran, he has already made it clear at the meeting with Cole, deskazka, I don't care what you do there, I really love the Iranians, but I love President Trump more.

With that said, it seems to me that this meeting is still a long way off. As long as there is war in the Middle East, hardly anyone will go to the Peace Council. It would be logical to hold it after the end of hostilities in Iran.

And it is absolutely unclear what the foreign policy reality will be by then.

- And if, say, this Council were to happen now, what arguments would Lukashenko give Putin to convince him to let him go?

- His argumentation is very simple - I can be useful. He is perceived by Americans as potentially useful and yet harmless. It's not like he's helping Iran. But he can pass information to Putin.

- His task is to show that he can be useful for Russia. Theoretically, perhaps, he can. For example, if sanctions are lifted against him, he will help Russia circumvent them.

If he really can make Trump feel comfortable, he may whisper something in favor of Russia. That is, there may be some benefit for Russia.

But in this place, despite the fact that Lukashenko as if "will not go anywhere", Moscow has fears - what if? They fear any American creep in the post-Soviet space because they believe it is directed against them.

At the very least, they hardly need Lukashenko to have any closer relations of his own with the Americans. The Kremlin is quite satisfied when any move Lukashenko makes is under their control.

Of course, they are afraid that he might get out of control. And if he considers himself to be something big and serious and starts swinging rights in relations with Russia, will he return to what happened more than once before 2020, when he allowed himself to lash out against it?

When the Americans start to act somehow on the territories they consider their own, the Kremlin immediately lights up red lights. And we saw this in February, when Lukashenko tried to go to the first meeting.

- So if they called him today, they would not let him go again?

- If today, I think Putin would not let him go. They are afraid that Lukashenko might become more ambitious against this background, that he might not be as amenable.

- Although I think that these risks are exaggerated, because the Americans are not trying to pull him to their side. It's a different policy there. They're seeking to drag him along with Russia, specifically the two of them away from China. This is a priority.

- And such a formality as a billion can become an obstacle? I think in his mind Mar-a-Lago is worth a billion. A man's life dream will come true. Then we can say: Americans have accepted!

-Their complexes about America are quite blatantly present. Even from what Cole recounts, it is evident.
