Saudi Arabia Has Issued An Ultimatum To Iran

The country could open up U.S. access to its bases.

Saudi Arabia has issued a warning to Iran about possible tough measures in case of new attacks on its territory. In particular, Riyadh may give the US access to Saudi military bases. This is reported by Reuters citing sources familiar with the talks.

According to the agency, the relevant signal was sounded during a conversation between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The Saudi side emphasized that it supports a diplomatic settlement and has so far not allowed its airspace or territory to be used to strike Iran.

At the same time, Riyadh warned that in the event of new attacks, particularly on critical infrastructure, the kingdom could move to mirror actions.

Contradictory signals from Iran

Reuters notes that there have been conflicting statements from the Iranian side. Iran's president has previously apologized to neighbors for the escalation and said he was ready to end the attacks in the absence of "provocations." At the same time, the Iranian military command says that American and Israeli facilities in the region remain priority targets.
