Romania May Activate NATO Article 4 Over Russian Drone Crash On Apartment Building

The statement was made by the head of the Romanian Foreign Ministry.

On the night of May 29, a Russian UAV flew into Romanian airspace and crashed into the roof of an apartment building in the city of Galati, causing a fire.

The crash of a Russian UAV into an apartment building in Romania, which occurred on the night of May 29, could activate NATO's Article 4.

This statement was made by the head of the Romanian Foreign Ministry Oana-Silvia Tsoiu, writes Mediafax.

Oana-Silvia Tsoiu emphasized that the incident in the city of Galati is among those for which NATO Article 4 can be activated. The Romanian President has the right to use such an instrument.

According to the Romanian Foreign Minister, a meeting of the National Security Council may be convened. The relevant discussion is now being held with President Nicusor Dan.

The final decision has not yet been made, nor has the decision to activate NATO's Article 4. According to it, any member state of the Alliance may convene consultations with allies if, in its opinion, its territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened.

This does not mean the automatic use of military force, unlike NATO's Article 5. As a reminder, on the night of May 29, a Russian UAV involved in an attack on Ukraine flew into Romanian airspace and crashed into the roof of an apartment building in the city of Galati.

The impact caused an apartment on the 10th floor to catch fire and injured two people. The fire was quickly extinguished.
