The power plant is on fire.
Several districts of Moscow—Gagarinsky, Danilovsky, and Zamoskvorechye—experienced a blackout, after which widespread internet outages began, reports “Ostorozhno Moskva.” Users across Russia are complaining about websites and services being inaccessible, as well as issues with major internet service providers and telecom operators, including Rostelecom, Megafon, Beeline, and Lovit. Over the past hour, the Downdetector service has received more than a thousand reports of outages. Most of the complaints came from residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
According to the publication, the power went out after a fire at a “facility” on Vavilova Street in the Gagarinsky District—judging by the footage, this appears to be Thermal Power Plant No. 20. The Telegram channel “112,” which is close to law enforcement agencies, reports that an explosion occurred there.
An RBC source also reported an incident in the Gagarinsky District that affected Moscow Long-Distance Telephone Exchange No. 9 (MMTS-9). A significant portion of Russian internet traffic passes through this facility. A representative of Reg.ru, the country’s largest domain name registrar, confirmed to TASS that the disruptions to the Russian internet are linked to a power outage at a major communications hub.
