The Catalans scored two goals each in their first league match.

Reigning Spanish champion Barcelona routed Elche in the first round of the 2026–2027 La Liga season. Rafinha and Fermin Lopez each scored two goals for the winners, while Karim Adeyemi scored his first goal for the Catalan team.

This was reported by Sport RBC.UA.

Match highlights: Elche vs. Barcelona

As early as the 14th minute, Barcelona was awarded a penalty, which Raphinha confidently converted. The home team’s goalkeeper Matías Dituro completely misjudged the direction of the ball.

Toward the end of the first half, Raphinha took on the role of playmaker: his pass set up new signing Karim Adeyemi, who joined Barcelona this summer from Borussia Dortmund. After the break, Hans-Dieter Flick’s team continued to control the game but took their time building a decisive lead.

The score changed in the 67th minute when Raphinha latched onto a pass from Anthony Gordon and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Then came Fermín López’s moment to shine: first, he scored off an assist from Gordon, and eight minutes later, the 23-year-old Spaniard completed his brace by calmly slotting the ball under the crossbar.

Thus, Barcelona kicked off the new season with a crushing 5–0 victory. Interestingly, the Catalans took a total of 11 shots on goal, 7 of which were on target.

Gavi’s Injury

The bad news for Barcelona in this match was the injury to central midfielder Gavi. The 22-year-old player sustained an injury at the end of the first half and was replaced by Pedri. An estimated timeline for his recovery will be announced on Monday.

It should be noted that Barcelona’s new signing, Rodri, did not play in this match. Also, Hansi Flick did not include Alejandro Balde and Héctor Forta in the match roster. Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong and Rooney Barge remain sidelined due to injuries.
