Action “For freedom of Tibet” held near China’s Embassy in Minsk (Photo, video)

The action of solidarity with Tibetan people took place in Minsk at 4.30pm today. Activists of the campaign “European Belarus” organised it near the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

The activists unfurled a banner “Free Tibet!” and hoisted two flags – a Belarusian one and a Tibetan one. During 10 minutes of the action, in spite of attempts of militia to stop the action, staff of the embassy could hear calls: “Freedom for Tibet!”, "China, stop terror!", “Stop massacre of civilians!”, “Free Tibet, no repressions!”

The action drew attention of the embassy staff – their faces could be seen almost in every window. One of the embassy clerks tried to take away the Tibetan flag, forbidden in China, but unsuccessfully.

The action ended with an attempt to set a barbed wire wreath on the gates of the embassy. Militia officers, having tried to take away the flags and a photocamera, didn’t let a girl with the wreath come to the gates, then the girl threw it on the ground near the gates.

Two of the participants spanned the entrance to the embassy with a banner and stood there shouting slogans until militia detained them.

The detained, Palina Dzyakava and Paval Kuryanovich, are in the internal affairs department of the Savetski District now.

Protest actions on the occasion of 49th anniversary of Dalai Lama exile are held In Tibetan capital Lhasa. The rallies are cracked down brutally by Chinese authorities.
